Why not journalism?

On the necessity of journalism, nothing has changed.

What has changed is that he no longer takes place in a world of information scarcity, but of information overload. The task of the journalist in the middle of chaos can be described quite simply: to separate the important from the unimportant, and right from wrong. How has that changed, not the what.

Not needed, only bad journalism. But it was always like that. It earlier fell to just not so.

From Stefan Niggemeier contribution under the SZ series "What's still journalism?"

Social Web Graffiti - our first concept design

The whole began during Advent "Social Media mulled wine" in the Schwabing office of Hillert and co.: CEO Christian Ehl invited me to a joint presentation in which we näherbrachten customers and partners with the theme of social media. A short time later, Christian submitting to me the first time his idea: Why social media do not even represent a completely new and different way: not in conventional presentations, not in another Infographics (though there are a couple of good), no - why not? Select the art form of graffiti? He had to convince me not long, I was immediately smitten it. Over the Christmas holidays, the idea is more mature, Hillert-designers have made it to first design drafts for logo design and blog together with Christian and I have now poured into the first concept version of a presentation. In the background were already established initial contacts with graffiti sprayers, Twitter has started and the blog is just about to start. I'm just waiting on the first wall :-)

"Why write it?"

"There are three difficulties in authorship: to write anything worth publishing, to find honest men to publish it, and to find sensible men to read it."
~ Charles Caleb Colton

At the site, the Divinipoint blog, this quote heads up a great post worth reading: "Writing, Why bother" - a few very critical (if not disillusioning) thoughts on the future of professional writing. If, perhaps specifically to the American situation - but certain parallels can not be dismissed out of hand. Here's another excerpt:

"Stephenie Meyer, best-selling author of the Twilight series, was only discovered because of did not understand the internal policies of Writers House, the agency that now represents her."

Commentary purpose weapon for Wordpress

admin-comment-options[1] Comments on blogs must always be handled - whether it goes to corrections of the author himself or by necessary interventions of the operator / administrators in terms of moderation or spam defense. My specific problem was something more exotic: I've swapped several years ago from Movable Type to Wordpress, which was superficially quite good, but gave me a lot, unfortunately misplaced comments.

All these problems can be overcome with the comment "miracle cure" WP Ajax easy fix Edit Comments - themselves, with numerous functions in the admin console, but also with Ajax Popus in the blog entries

Schirrmacher, who has the digital-media debate made the palaver?

"My head no longer comes with" Frank Schirrmacher describes in his book, Payback his central problem with the digital media () here, the SZ-criticism. But he was rebuffed by many as a digital dilettante. It must be seen, however, credit that he had his mind unlike many "false" colleagues are not simply embedded in the sand, but on the contrary, sought to promote public discussion of the digital culture. For this he has just one day to the FAZ. en opened a debate about changing how the IT media, our thinking. Some scholars and writers contributed to this article - including such prominent names such as Nicholas Carr and Kevin Kelly (Wired).

Schirrmacher, it can be but do not take this time to hand out hefty digs against his view, backward German Internet debate:

"Unlike in Germany, where the debate about the information age is still an embossed interests of palaver about media, targets the Edge debate in depth."

...

"The German Internet debate on the state of the nineties. A digital avant-garde of his own grace, would decide who goes with doing, as if communication network is not easy and when it was enough at a time when even "The horror is" in the network, have a blog to be recorded as a connoisseur. This is understandable, because it sold policies and publishing advice, but as a supposedly progressive stance it has long been overtaken by reality. "

Complicity of Medienestablishments

It is easy to overlook that it is precisely by Schirrmacher and his associates had dominated German Medienestablishment that has kept small suppressed since the early 90s, and these debates. While the U.S. has been accompanied in the emerging IT revolution by an intellectual avant-garde (Wired was certainly the key,) but by far not the only platform of this discourse, had the rare plants in this country hardly avant-garde a chance to be heard outside their circle. The leading German media have on the contrary actually liked to belittle at every possible opportunity the digital revolution and to dismiss them as temporary hype of pickelgesichtigen computer idiot. I will be glad to refer you (and for the umpteenth time) on the SZ-feuilleton's 1996 contribution "comments from a cyber-skeptic", which represents the German Bedenkenträgertum par excellence on display.

My argument is therefore that the current media crisis and therefore embarks so hard, because the intellectual elite in this country has refused to deal with the IT revolution for so long. Schirrmacher, including and especially the times should write behind the ears. Blaming or complaining about missed opportunities should resist the critics yet, one can in fact be very thankful to him that he now at least spurs with all possible contributions to debates - maybe they succeed this time a prolific German discourse on the kulturverändernde media revolution.

Don Dahlmann, it can no longer hear

the "blogger-on-journalist thing" and has written to some remarkable ideas. Including the very apt here:

"Why did bloggers want to work at the publishing houses, thanks to their financial and legal equipment much you can, much better? Meanwhile, try some brave bloggers, but a substitute for an independent, funded by a strong and courageous journalism, publishing, the editors do not cuddle together with publishing director of lobbies and / or politicians, is not.

Filter Google Streetview: Real faces, not graffiti!

gta_LA

Google tried to do by the software scanned the faces of people Streetview unrecognizable in order to protect their privacy. Since this is not always reliable work, now is the supreme Swiss data protection legal action against Google. Elsewhere, however, the software seems to overshoot over the target. For example, in these meter-high posters on the south façade of the Figueroa Hotel in Los Angeles, to advertise for the game Grand Theft Auto (GTA).

News resplendent in the same place in the new S Figueroa St, incidentally - GTA - behavior. ... See below
